Fire Ravages National Park

Fire Ravages National Park

Fire has again ripped through the Mooloolah River National Park at Sippy Downs, which borders Claymore Road.

The devastation was first reported at 3pm yesterday and fire crews were quickly on the scene to contain the blaze. A back burning exercise started which saved the homes along Claymore road. Luckily the winds were blowing in an easterly direction away from Sippy Downs, but that spelt bad news for the National Park, where 250 to 300 hectares of Mooloolah River National Park were effected.

Some say it is a time for regeneration and nature’s way of rebuilding.

Motorists in the area were also effected with the closure of Claymore & parts of Dixon Road, as well as the Sunshine Motorway for several hours.

The last fire in the area happened 2 years ago with similar results. Fortunately no lives or property were lost and it is unknown if the fire was deliberately lit. Being the start of school holidays, you have to wonder. Anyone with information please contact Police.
